Garment Care
Caring for your garments
Our fabrics differ from piece to piece, so the care label on your garment always wins. What follows is the general advice; where a fibre needs different handling, it says so.
The first washes
- Wash separately: For the first two to three washes, hand wash the garment on its own in cold water. Deeper colours can release a little surface dye at first.
- Cold water only: Never soak in warm or hot water. Heat sets creases in synthetics and can fade or shrink cotton and linen.
- Gentle detergent: Use a pH-neutral, mild liquid detergent. Avoid harsh powder detergents, enzymes, or fabric softeners, which coat the yarn and dull the finish.
Washing & drying
Hand wash (Recommended)
Gently swirl the garment in cold water with diluted mild soap. Do not wring or scrub aggressively. Rinse thoroughly in fresh cold water until clear.
Machine wash
If machine washing, place inside a mesh laundry bag and select a delicate/handwash cycle with cold water (max 30°C). Low spin only.
Drying
Always line dry in shade. Direct island sunlight fades colour over time. Gently reshape while damp and dry flat or on a contoured hanger to avoid stretching. Never tumble dry.
Ironing & storage
- Check the label before you iron: Cotton and linen press most crisply while slightly damp, on a warm setting. Synthetics need a cool iron — a hot plate will glaze or melt them. Always press on the reverse side.
- Steam gently: A handheld steamer is ideal for refreshing garments between wears without flattening the fabric texture.
- Breathable storage: Store in a cool, dry closet on wooden or padded hangers. Avoid airtight plastic bags that trap humidity.
Fabric characteristics & shrinkage
Cloth varies a little from run to run, in texture and in colour gradation between runs. We guarantee the structural stitching and seams of our garments against manufacturing defects. Cotton and linen relax by roughly 2–3% on the first wash, which our garment sizing accounts for.
